Face plants, guacamole and walking barefoot.

11:22 AM

Hi!
So funny, my companion have been trying to think up good email headings for the last 5 minutes.
I think this heading descirbes my week pretty well:)
Face plant: My companion and I were walking on the beach for our dinner, the rocks were really wet, she slipped and magically is okay. After finding out if she was okay, we had ourselves a good laugh. She is one of the only people who has been able to make me laugh so hard I cry.
Guacamole- Mom sent me in a package forever ago (hace tiempo! when english is a bit of a struggle) some taco seasoning packets. I have been saving them for a special occasion. We bought some avocados and we FOUND TORTILLA CHIPS!!!!!!!!!!! I know in the states tortilla chips are something we take for granted but here they are a delicacy!
We made guacamole and it was so good!
Also a funny story before I get into the important stuff. This is a clip from an email Hermana West sent to her family

"Saturday night our music practice went over by a ton.  We ended by 9:35, but we had to be in the house for sure by 10:00.  We were in the Ovajero chapel which is about a 25 minute walk to our house from there if we are walking REALLY fast.  Also, we couldnt take a taxi because its the end of the month and we were out of money.  Anyway, because it had been raining all day my companion and I wore our big rubber hunter boots.  The back of my heals were pealing off.  Hahahah that sounds super gross but its true.  The skin was coming off from walking in them for a few days and it hurt so bad.  We had to walk really slow all day.  So we left the chapel and tried to walk fast but its wasnt working. Hermana Egbert and I tried switching shoes to see if her shoes wouldnt hurt me as bad but that was a mistake hahah it made it 10x worse.  We stopped and said a prayer asking for a miracle.  We told Heavenly Father that we wanted to do our best to keep His rule of being in the house by 10:00 and that we were willing to try our best.  After the prayer Hermana Egbert said that it would probably be faster for us if I took off my shoes and walked barefoot home, so I did!  We both took off our shoes (she didnt want me to suffer alone) and started to walk home in the freezing rain as fast as we could!  People were looking at us SO WEIRD and we were trying to hide our nametags so we would just look like to crazy gringas instead of two crazy missionaries.  After about 5 minutes of laughing super hard but also realizing that there was absolutely no way we were going to make it home on time, a miracle happened.  A member had been driving by and saw two tall girls walking and thought it might be the missionaries and that they could give them a ride!  They turned around and took the long way so that they could make sure the missionaries had a ride home.  To their surprise, they pulled up and saw us all wild looking and barefoot. They were super confused hahha but they were really kind and gave us a ride and we were in the house at EXACTLY TEN!!!  We were laughing a ton but at the same time we wanted to cry because we realized that Heavenly Father is super aware of us and wants to bless us.  As we try our best to do what he asks us, he will always provide a way.  Our Heavenly Father is a God of miracles and he has everything planned out to the last detail, we just need to excersice our faith and act. "

It would have been okay not to get in at ten and we knew that but Heavenly Father Provided the way for us to complete with the rule when we could not by ourselves. That is obedience. God wants us to be obedient so He provides the way and means.

Okay the members are doing so great in helping with missionary work! They called our investigators and invited them to church with out us calling and asking them to do it. Lisbeth came to church! I was leading the music and when I saw her come in with her mom I got all mixed up in the leading because I was so excited. She had chosen to come to church instead of her Karate competition! I was so happy!! Tonight we have a family night with a recent convert Alejandra and her Husband who is not a member. He came to church yesterday so we are excited to see if he would like to take the lessons.
Well that is our week.
I know Jesus Christ is our Savior. He helps me so much to be able to do the missionary work. Its hard at times and He is my strength. Today I read in Moroni 7 that we should discern all things (do all things) with the light of Christ. I really liked that. It helps me to focus on Christ even when it is hard.
I love you all!

We made bread with a member during exchanges. This is why all missionaries in the Chile Osorno mission get a lovely double chin. The bread is sooooooooooooo good.

Me hugging sweet emelia a girl in the ward

I love doing my companions hair

Us by the ocean

I have had this skirt since I was 11 and Emily and Lizzy had it before then. I always said I would wear it as a missionary someday.

The first ones I am holding the Living Christ but it looks like my mission call.

The second we found wild flowers!

THEY CAME TO CHURCH!!!!!

4:37 PM

Okay buckle up. This one is going be a good one!

Its been a great week. My companion and I have been working A LOT with the members lately. Visiting them, helping them be excited about missionary work etc. We did a ward fast last Sunday for the missionary work in this Area.
So about a month ago we found a new investigator Alejandro. He came to an activity this week and then church on SundayOn Saturday we had an appt with him. He told us he prayed to know if the Book of Mormon true and that afterwards he felt a warm feeling and that it was. He accepted to be baptized in Nov.
Myrna has been sharing with the missionaries for about 2 years now. In all that time she has never come to church. Usually we would stop sharing with someone who isnt progressing but my companion and I have both felt to keep going to her house. For the past 4 months we have kept going and sharing. Her struggle has been that she feels all religions are great and they all get us to Christ. There is no one real religion. As we have shared, invited, asked questions she has begun to realize that God called Joseph Smith to restore His church upon the earth. She believes it is true. She came to church on Sunday!!!!!!!!! She also accepted to be baptized in November.
Not sure if you remember Lisbeth. She is the daughter of an inactive member Claudia. Lisbeth has been reading the Book of Mormon and still would like to be baptized she accepted for early November. She also miraculously came to church.
The ward was so excited. The church was full and the members welcomed them, hugged them to pieces.
Missionary work is so special. I know the Lord is in charge. When He wants things to happen He has them happen. The special thing is that each one of these people have started to progress as they pray to know if the Book of Mormon is true and if this is the restored church upon the earth. Through the Holy Spirit they gain testimony of these things.
Also Hermana West is done with her training!!! WOOHOO! What a ride!
Well I just want to bear my testimony that God lives. Jesus Christ is our beloved Savior. I know the quote that says " God hears our prayers and it is usually through another person he answers them." it is true.
Have a wonderful week. Love you al!

Hola

So this week was good. We were able to find some new people to teach which is always a blessing.
It was funny because it was Friday and we hadnt found anyone and with in 2 hours on Friday we found a family and some other people. And nothing major happened to make us start to find people.  It was a good reminder that when Heavenly Father has people prepared He will direct us to them. As long as we are living worthy of the spirit, He will guide us:). I learn that lesson over and over every day. I think eventually it will start to be part of me haha.

An experience I wanted to share about a new woman we found.
So on Friday afternoon, my companion and I were walking on our way to an appt. We were just talking and passed a woman outside working in her garden. We both felt we should go back and talk with her.
I think that is my favorite way to contact the people. Just randomly going up and starting a conversation. Being a missionary is funny because its like your name tag is this right to go talk to whoever. It used to be weird at the begining but now I like. Anyways, we just talked to her about her garden, the weather etc she asked the whole "you girls are from around here are you (starts to laugh)" they all say the same phrase. We explained we were missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. That we leave our families, homes and country to come teach other about Jesus Christ. We asked if we could share a message with her. She invited us in and we shared the Restoration. The message touched her and she asked how it is that we could so clearly and well, explain the message we carried. We were able to explain that the Holy Spirit helps us teach.
It was special because my spanish is still choppy sometimes, im still learning the lessons yet, when the spirit is with me and my companion, it doesnt matter. He touched her heart. What a great moment.
Well I am going to go out and look for another miracle and invite all of you to do the same!

General Conference!

October 2, 2017

Hi everyone!

These weeks just keep coming faster and faster.

General Conference was the absolute best! I am so grateful for the oppurtunity to watch living prophets, apostles and other auxillary leaders speak.
I have never felt so much peace while watching a general conference.

This past week was really good. We are just pluggling right along with this area. I have been here for almost 4 months. I still love it so much. Its been a lot of work and thats okay:). We are working with some great investigators. Hermana West and I are almost done with her training. Wow what a crazy and fun time it has been. It was one of the harder things but we saw so many miracles. I have learned so much from her!
I really have a testimony of 1 nephi 3:7. When I was asked to have a new missionary as my comp when I barely had 6 months in the mission I was so nervous. I still struggled to speak, teach and be a missionary. I felt really inadequate. But I knew that God didnt call me because of my abilities. He just knew It would be an oppurtunity for me to learn to trust in Him a little more. He has taken care of the language, the lessons, EVERYTHING.
When we are pushed out of our comfort zone we are able to see Gods hand in our life more clearly.
This is true with everything. When investigators feel they need to accept to be baptized and they follow through, they are able to see Gods hand in their life.
I am so grateful for a good, kind and loving Heavenly Father.
Like Elder Holland said on Saturday " I am grateful God is merciful and a peacemaker, because I need mercy and the world needs peace."
I know this is the true church upon the earth. I know that President Thomas S. Monson is a prophet of God. I know that if we do as He invites, to read and meditate the Book of Mormon everyday we will be blessed and protected. I have seen it in my own life and witnessed it in the lives of others.
I love you all! Have a wonderful week! Look to your Savior and accept His loving gift of peace and forgiveness everyday!
Love Hermana Egbert
